Mandi Perkins & The Violet Crown
Los Angeles, California
"Mandi Perkins is undoubtedly one of the freshest, most prolific
songwriters to hit the U.S. from our North American neighbor.
Consistently delighting audiences with her enthusiastic performances,
her "take no prisoners" attitude, and her contagious melodic rock,
Perkins is set for fame." -- BMI

Mandi Perkins is an intensely passionate singer/songwriter who
creates uncompromising melodic rock. She writes about her life and
those around her in a musical form of empathy, which makes listeners
care, think and question. Energetic and charismatic, Mandi has been
described as a "fireball character" ... oddly enough, on at least three
ocassions.

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Mandi began writing and
performing when she was very young and her childhood included
musical theatre, vocal competitions, and writing every chance she
could. After graduating high school, she moved to Montreal to attend
the prestigious McGill University where she realized that she wanted to
realize her dreams of becoming a professional singer/songwriter and
performer. Her ambitions inspired a move to California to pursue both
her music career and finish college.

Mandi attended UC Berkeley where she graduated with Honors in
English Literature. Her extensive studies enabled her to improve her
songwriting skills. When asked about what impact her education had
on her as an artist, Mandi had this to say: “Berkeley was about finding
your own voice, finding a way to express what’s in your heart and
stomach, the places you wouldn’t usually let other people see. Iambic
pentameter, Haikus, free form poetry, fricative rhymes, it all comes
back to form and expression. In terms of songwriting, I feel that music
should just flow, but lyrics should follow a linear thought so that others
can follow. I learned how to tell a story in school. And I also learned
more about who I was.”

Immediately following graduation, Mandi made a move to Los Angeles
in order to fully dedicate herself to music. She has spent much of the
last few years embroiled in the entertainment industry carving out her
own path, her own way.

If you google “Mandi Perkins,” you will find thousands of sites detailing
her musical accomplishments. Mandi has sold over 15,000 CD’s and
digital downloads of her EP “Broken Window” and the lead single
“Why” has won numerous awards and has received airplay across the
country. Mandi has also had songs featured on the television shows
The Hills, The Real World & Laguna Beach.

Her latest accomplishment is her debut album, “bleeding the line ...”
which will be finished and ready for unleashing in early 2007. Mandi
couldn’t be more excited. “This album is sick. It’s absolutely amazing. I
had so many experiences trying to get this album made. I began
raising money by pre-selling the new CD and through private
donations. On sheer belief alone, I got the funding to record, and that
makes the album priceless. Each of the songs stem from my own
personal experiences, the lives of the people closest to me and those I
met along the way. Once I have the emotion explode on paper, I am
much more at ease. Songwriting is cathartic for me. I think it’s great to
passionately feel, but there is a point when you should make sure you
have an outlet, especially when the excess baggage takes control of
your life. Hopefully listening to my music will be cathartic for other
people."
Doc's Personal Notes!
What can I say that has not been said above. Mandi is one very prolific songwriter and an
equally talented singer and performer. The band "Violet Crown" instrumentation blends
with the vocals in a smooth fluidity river of emotions. She is a lady of many faces so to
speak, blond to black to red to auburn in coloration. My personal favorite is her red
persona! Bleeding The Line is due out soon and will showcase both her talents and the
bands as well. I expect great things of this lady in the present and future. A talent that will
surely take her far. She will always be a favorite of this station.
