Sabrina Taylor
Band: Sabrina Taylor
I had always dreamed of moving to Los Angeles
passion of mine since I was able to speak. I have
always been into poetry, words, rhyming and
anything to do with describing emotions. I grew
up in a broken home for most of my life. I lived in
and out of foster care, back and forth from
mother to father and YES, it was hard. But for
the most part I was fine because I had two
younger sisters and one older brother at the
time, to help make the transitions a bit easier (I
now have 1 more brother and 4 other sisters,
since then).
At the age of 7 I entered into a school variety
show and performed in front of my very first
audience. It was at that moment that I knew this
was something I wanted and needed to do. I
could feel it in my bones, the excitement I felt
being on stage was so intense. Right away I
started learning about poetry and started
listening to a variety of music from POP (Cindy
Lauper, Madonna) to ROCK (Bruce
Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac) and good old
COUNTRY ( Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Kenny
Rogers).
By the age of 13 I had already won a few poetry
contests, won many singing competitions and
was singing regularly, with two of my sisters,
around the province. We called our selves
SHIVERS because people would tell us "you girls
give me shivers."
At the age of 16 things started getting harder at
home so I finished high school, got a job and
moved out on my own. I had also joined a band
called ROSEMADDER, a rock band that allowed
me to open my mind with my song-writing. I
started writing darker material. ( I was into the
Cranberries). By the summer of my 17th
birthday, I had planed on moving to Toronto to
further pursue my musical career. I felt I had
toped out where I was, selling out local clubs
and I was jonesing for a bigger pond to swim in.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) the move fell
through. The timing was off and things just
weren't lining up for me. I was devastated,
pissed and decided to take this time and go to
college. I studied business at the local
community college for a year and that summer,
a NEW door opened up for me. A door that I had
always dreamed of walking through. It was the
door to Los Angeles. In August of 2001, I
packed my bags, said my goodbyes and left
Nova Scotia for the first time in my life. I didn't
know what to expect. I just KNEW that this was
the way it was meant to be. It all made since to
me now, why the Toronto move didn't happen.
I came to Los Angeles on my own, with $2000 to
my name. It was a very rough, first 2 years,
having to deal with getting a green card and
finding a job. I was scared but also excited
because this felt like home to me more than any
other town I lived in. Last year I released my first
US EP titled "CAN'T GO HOME". It is produced
by myself and best friend/Producer Jonathan
Mesh. It is a CD about my journey to LA. It did
extremely well and It sold many copies and is still
selling digitally. Today, I am working on a full
length album. This album is about growth,
strength and finding out who I am and what my
purpose is on this little Earth. We are working on
getting an EP version of the record ready for the
summer of 2008. I have been singing, writing
and playing music since I can remember. It has
been the ONE thing that has kept me sane in
this very crazy world. I am so grateful to be
where I am today and to have the ability to do
what I love. Even if it means jumping hurdles
along the way. Thank you to everyone for being
so supportive of me from day one. I hope to
meet as many people as I can with my music and
my story. ONE LOVE FOREVER!! SABRINA
TAYLOR .
my ear as well as my eye very early on in
the formation of RupturedEarDrums. A
very talented singer & songwriter, her
vocals reach out and draw you into the
warmth of the music. She is yet another
artist that has made great personal
sacrifices for the art in which she has
chosen as a profession. Sabrina is an
artist in which we need to keep a close
eye on as she makes her mark upon the
industry. We wish her all the best in her
continuing endeavour and will support
her in every way we can. We consider her
a longtime friend and favorite here at the
RED. Anytime you can go and catch a
show where this lady is playing, please do
so. A live performance by Sabrina is
something you do not wish to miss!
